There is no general answer to the question of which academic degree best suits your later career entry and subsequent advancement. Often, the final degree will already be determined by your choice of subject or higher education institution.
Basically, it's necessary to differentiate between whether these degrees are awarded by a university (Bachelor's or Master's, Diplom, Magister, etc.) or by a state examination office (Staatsexamen) or by a church examination office (kirchliche Prüfung). As a rule, the final examinations which students take lead to a degree with professional qualification. Intermediate (Zwischenprüfung) and pre-Diplom (Vordiplom) examinations do not constitute academic degrees in Germany.
